I' looking for recommendations for a 10GB network switch. I typically use network switches that are "intended" for entertainment use, (Pathport Via for example) but I'm looking for some 10GB copper options since the higher end hippos have 10GB networking.
I currently use the XS712T for all my shows that require 10GBe switches. Netgear link below for the full lineup. We see speeds of up to 1.4GBps thats about 500GB in 10min. We used a QNAP NAS RAID0 and 2 10GBe ports to the 12 port NetGear.
I would second the Netgear option. They are cost effective and seem to just work. One thing to bear in mind is that at 10gb wire speed, cabling starts to really matter. Cat5e works, but only for very short runs. (<5m) Even Cat6 is really only good to 60m. (Anything more needs to be fibre). I have seen quite a few shows where 10gb switches where declared 'broken' thanks to a bad (or old) patch cable.
