I'm running a Single Hippo V3 on pan mode with an output resolution of 3840 x 1080 and we are not splitting media. From other users previous experiences, what file formats gave the best results in this situation?
I've imported jpeg & PNG Image sequences before and Imported MP4 Files (Changed the File Extension to MOV to get the Media Manager to accept it)
The Image sequences have given the best results, but they are always huge amounts of data to Transfer (especially if they are PNG) and the you have to run the Audio File on a separate layer. I sometimes get slight Strobing Issues when importing High resolution Mp4 files and re-encoding them to Flex Res. In which i can't quite find the source of the problem at the moment.
You'll get best results with least compressed formats such as animation or prores. h.264 should work fine as long as your quality setting is very high and your res isn't greater than 4k but this also brings the file size up. I don't remember which codecs work with v3 exactly but you could try using an animation codec vid as a base test. This should be very high quality. Then use a program like mpeg streamclip to transcode into different file formats to see what works for you.
Short answer, I found img sequences the best but only because I mostly worked with very very large media. But prores 420 has been working well for us in v4.
